Los Angeles Chargers star running back Melvin Gordon will reportedly end his lengthy holdout with the team and report to the Chargers' practice facility on Thursday.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting Gordon will not play in Week 4 in Miami against the Dolphins, but will be back at practice ASAP.
Gordon is in the final year of a rookie contract that will pay him $5.6 million in the upcoming season. Gordon reportedly wanted to a new deal that would put his salary neck and neck with the National Football League’s highest paid running backs.
Currently the top 3 highest paid NFL running backs in terms of annual salary are Todd Gurley ($14.3 million), Le’Veon Bell ($13.1 million), and David Johnson (13.0 million).
Gordon totaled 885 rushing yards (5.1 per carry) and 490 receiving yards in just 12 games last season.
Without Gordon's services through three games, the Chargers had lost two of three games and ranked 13th in the NFL in rushing yards per game with 111.7, but were fifth in the league in yards per carry at 5.2.
Gordon was originally rumored to be returning sometime in October, and had to report by Week 10 of this season to qualify for free agency next year.
