Colin Cowherd: Joe Judge Could Become NFL's Next Great Head Coaching Phenom
Colin Cowherd: “Yesterday when Joe Judge got hired my takeaway was ‘Good God, this feels like a panic move!’ but now that I’ve read anything, maybe Judge will be special… There are some late bloomers, but most exceptional people separate very early and you can spot them very early. Judge is in his 30’s and it’s very possible that Dave Gettleman saw what Bill Belichick and what Nick Saban did. Belichick kept giving him more assignments, and Saban kept elevating him. Sean McVay, like Judge, was also a quarterback in high school and got a job at 30 years old in Los Angeles. Kyle Shanahan was 37, Mike Tomlin and Bill Cowher were not even 35 yet. Jon Gruden got a head coaching job at 34 after Al Davis spotted him. John Madden was 32. Don Shula was 33. Belichick was 38... Maybe I was wrong.” (Full Audio Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd do a second take on freshly hired New York Giants coach head Joe Judge, a day after Colin called the hire a ‘bad move’ and said the Giants ‘panicked’ by hiring the former New England Patriots assistant.

Twenty four hours later and Cowherd has a change of heart after reading up a little bit more on Judge, who seemed like an improbable hire simply because of the anonymity of his name, and the ignorance of the mainstream media.

Check out the audio above as Colin details why we have to give Giants GM Dave Gettleman the benefit of the doubt here, just a year after he was brutally derided for drafting Duke’s Daniel Jones at six overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, who would then turn out to be one of the most productive rookies in the league.

Colin says the overwhelming majority of great NFL minds start out as young maestros similar to the path of Judge's, and says we can’t just deny someone just based on their inexperience alone.
