Chris & Rob Debate If the Angels Firing Joe Maddon Was Too Impulsive

Rob Parker: “We know what kind of manager Joe Maddon is, but it’s hard not to fire him after a stretch of 12 losses in a row. Two weeks ago they were 10 games above .500, and things were looking promising. They have too of the best talents in the game in Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, they can’t afford to let yet another season of their careers go to waste. They had to make a change to try and salvage the season and prevent it from going up in flames. Joe Girardi just got fired after the Phillies were off to a bad stretch, and since they’ve made that move, the Phillies have new life. There’s too much at risk now in sports to not see results.”
Chris Broussard: “During this stretch Mike Trout hit .114, the whole staff had an ERA over 6, Anthony Rendon has been hurt and Taylor Ward got hurt. Now, this isn’t a knock on baseball, and I’m not saying managers don’t deserve to be fired... But to me, baseball managers have the least amount of impact on the game, especially compared to football and basketball. I can’t see how this poor stretch is on Joe Maddon. I would feel much better about this firing if I knew more about the interworking of the locker room.”
