Mike Macdonald Was the Best Available for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are set to hire Baltimore Ravens Defensive Coordinator Mike Macdonald as their new head coach and Doug Gottlieb reacts. He pushes back against the common refrain that they needed to hire an offensive guy and thinks Macdonald is bright enough to surround himself with strong offensive minded coaches. And he checks in with Dan Beyer who thinks Macdonald was clearly the best available candidate since Detroit Lions OC Ben Johnson took himself out of the running and Bill Belichick doesn’t seem interested.

Doug Gottlieb: “I don’t believe this crap about how, well, you know, you got to hire an offensive coordinator, and offensive coach. Like, no you don’t...”

Dan Beyer: “I do think that Seattle got one of the top guys. And especially over the last 24 hours, when you look at where the Commanders and Seahawks were with Ben Johnson dropping out, now you kind of had a war of the two team in trying to get Macdonald.”
