-The Cubs beat the Phillies 6-4 for their major league leading 40th win of the season. Jon Lester tossed 8 shutout innings in the win for Chicago.
-The Orioles downed the Royals 4-1. Baltimore moved ½ game up on idle Boston for first place in the A.L. East. Kansas City has lost 5 in a row.
-The Indians took care of the Mariners 3-1. Cleveland has won 6 straight and leads the A.L. Central by 2 ½ games.
