The latest College Football Playoff rankings are out, and Mississippi State remains #1, with Oregon jumping up to #2.  Florida State fell to 3rd, with TCU ranked 4th, Alabama 5th and Arizona State coming in at #6.  Baylor and Ohio State round out the top 8.

Lakers guard Wayne Ellington has been granted an indefinite leave of absence from the team after his father, Wayne Ellington Sr, was shot and killed Sunday in Philadelphia.  Wayne Ellington released a statement through the team, saying he and his family were "devastated" by the news of his father’s murder.

Nationals manager Matt Williams was named NL Manager of the Year, receiving 18 out of a possible 30 1st place votes.  Buck Showalter grabbed the honor in the American League, the 3rd time he has won the award.

Ken Rosenthal: The Houston Astros are interested in free agent SS Hanley Ramirez.
