Bears DE Lamarr Houston tore his ACL while celebrating a sack in yesterday’s game against the Patriots, and will be lost for the rest of the season.

NFL.com: Rams LT Jake Long and WR Brian Quick are done for the season with injuries.  Long tore his ACL, while Quick has a torn rotator cuff.

NFL.com: Redskins QB Colt McCoy will start tonight, as expected, as Robert Griffin III will still be out with his ankle injury.

Ohio State QB JT Barrett will be limited in practice this week with a sprained ACL.

Prosecutors in South Africa will appeal the conviction and sentence given to Oscar Pistorius for the killing of Reeva Steenkamp.  Pistorius was sentenced to 5 years in prison after he was found guilty of culpable homicide in Steenkamp’s death.

The Giants shutout the Royals 5-0 in Game 5 of the World Series. San Francisco starter Madison Bumgarner gets the complete game 4-hit shutout. The Giants take a 3-2 series lead.

St. Louis outfielder Oscar Taveras was killed in a car accident in his native Dominican Republic. The 22-year-old outfielder played in 80 games for the Cardinals this season.

The Saints outscored the Packers 44-23 on Sunday Night Football. New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees threw 3 TDs. The Saints are 3-0 at home, 0-4 on the road.

The Cardinals edged the Eagles 24-20. Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer threw a 75 yard TD pass to John Brown with 1:21 to play to win it. The Cardinals are 6-1 on the season.

The Steelers rolled over the Colts 51-34. Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for a team record 522 yards and 6 TD passes.

The Browns downed the Raiders 23-13. Oakland remains the only winless team in the NFL at 0-7.  

The Patriots beat the Bears 51-23. New England quarterback Tom Brady threw 5 TD passes, 3 of them to Rob Gronkowski.
