A.J. Hinch Lacks "Feel"

Whatever happened to "feel?" It's something you can't teach, but can be just as important as anything else in baseball. In Game 4 of the ALCS, Astros manager A.J. Hinch made a questionable decision when he took Lance McCullers out of the game after only surrendering two hits and one run. McCullers was absolutely dealing, and the Yankees looked to be on the brink of going down 3-1 in the series.

Then, A.J. Hinch pulled his pitcher because the numbers told him to do so. He disregarded the aura of the stadium, and the mental dominance McCullers seemed to have over New York. The Yankees were quickly able to get to the Astros bullpen, and storm out in front of them on the way to a 6-4 victory. There are statistics and numbers for everything in baseball, but the feel of a game can be the most powerful tool a manager can utilize.
