The Bucks’ Chances to Re-Sign Giannis Just Skyrocketed

The acquisition of Damian Lillard not only immediately thrusts the Milwaukee Bucks back into the role of championship favorites, it has more long-term benefits that could spell bad news for the rest of the NBA. It means Giannis Antetokounmpo, who seemed to be leaning toward leaving Milwaukee at the end of his contract, may seriously consider staying and setting up a possible dynasty with Dame. They could rival the great point guard/center combos of all time like Cousy & Russell or Magic & Kareem.

Dan Patrick: “Now you got Giannis’s attention of wanting to stay there, because I got the feeling that he was going to leave...Giannis was probably looking around going, ‘That roster is old,’ and, ‘Can I continue to carry them?’ Now you have somebody. Dame doesn’t have to be a 32-point scorer a night. He can be 12 assists instead of 10, he can get you 25 but if you need him to get you that 35, you need somebody to take a big shot, pick and roll with Giannis, now it gets a lot more interesting for that Milwaukee offense there because there are very, very few players like Dame.”
