The Astros Did Nothing but Pull a Philadelphia 76ers

Routinely lauded by baseball insiders for becoming the classic comeback story of ‘Worst to First’, JT The Brick wonders why the Astros front office is being patted on the back so affectionately when all they did was field the worst team in baseball for half a decade, and stockpile lottery picks.

From 2009-2014 the Astros finished the season an average of 38.8 games under .500 including three historically depressing years in ’11, ’12, and ’13 when they went a combined 162-324, with their 2013 team losing the 10th most games in the history of baseball.

With the five horrific seasons came an abundance of coveted draft picks, which ended up netting them George Springer in 2011 (#11), Carlos Correa (#1)  in 2012, Mark Appel (#1, later traded for All-Star closer Ken Giles) in 2013, and Alex Bregman (#2) in 2015.

Should we really applaud a team who tanked and put their fan base through hell for 5 years?
