Joel Klatt: LSU Doesn't Have Good Enough Defense to Win National Title

LSU v Alabama
Joel Klatt: “Since Tennessee won the BCS National Championship in 1998, only one team has won the title without a defense that is not ranked in the Top 25, it was Cam Newton’s 2010 Auburn team. LSU is trying to do exactly what Oklahoma tried with Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.”
Colin Cowherd: “LSU fans need to own it that they’re basically a Big 12 powerhouse right now with no defense.” (Full Audio at Bottom of Page)

Listen to Joel Klatt explain to Colin Cowherd why he believes why the number one ranked LSU Tigers aren’t going to be the favorites in the upcoming College Football Playoffs if the Tigers are joined by the no. 2 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, and no. 3 ranked Clemson Tigers.

Klatt compares LSU to the 2017/2018 Oklahoma Sooners team with Baker Mayfield that made it to the CFP Semifinals with the nation’s no. 1 scoring offense, before losing a heartbreaking overtime shootout to Georgia at the Rose Bowl, 54-48.

LSU’s defense is currently ranked 42nd in points per game allowed, and 43rd in yards allowed per game; a big separation from Ohio State’s defense (1st in points allowed, 1st in yards allowed) and Clemson’s defense (3rd in points allowed, 2nd in yards allowed)

Check out the audio below as Klatt explains why LSU’s porous defense is going to be the reason why Clemson and Ohio State have the upperhand on them in a likely final four including all three.
