Joe Burrow Says Play Money Odell Beckham Gave LSU Players Was Actually Real

Joe Burrow told the Barstool Sports Pardon My Take Podcast that the novelty play money that Odell Beckham Jr. was passing around the LSU locker room after their National Championship victory over Clemson Monday was actually real cash.

When asked if the former LSU wide receiver handed out REAL money to the victorious players in the Tigers locker room, Burrow told Pardon My Take: “I'm not a student-athlete anymore, so I can say yeah.”

It strangely directly contradicted a statement that the school had initially issued that explained it was all a gag, but the school quickly reversed course and admitted that new information they had gathered and reviewed had actually determined Beckham’s money was real.

"We are aware of the situation regarding Odell Beckham Jr. interacting with LSU student-athletes and others unaffiliated with the team following the championship game Monday night. Initial information suggested bills that were exchanged were novelty bills. Information and footage reviewed since shows apparent cash may have also been given to LSU student-athletes. We were in contact with the NCAA and the SEC immediately upon learning of this situation in which some of our student-athletes may have been placed in a compromising position. We are working with our student-athletes, the NCAA and the SEC in order to rectify the situation."

Burrow, will be joined by LSU players Grant Delpit, Patrick Queen, Justin Jefferson, Lloyd Cushenberry, Jacob Phillips, and Saahdiq Charles as 2020 NFL Draft entrants, so it's unknown how the SEC or NCAA will handle, if at all, players who have already crossed the bounds of amateurs athletes into the ranks of professionals.
