Top Five Greatest Individual Breakthrough Moments in Sports History

Listen to Doug Gottlieb rank the five biggest individual breakthroughs in sports history, as Gottlieb remembers the first legendary moments that some of our most beloved athletes experienced on the biggest stage.

One premiere that Doug most remembers was the first big national game that Shaquille O’Neal had at LSU. Shaq was one of, if not the most unstoppable college phenom of the 90’s, and played on one of the most memorable college teams ever with superstar guard Chris Jackson.

Then there’s Michael Jordan, whose 63-point performance at Boston Garden in 1986 versus the juggernaut Celtics, was one of the most indelible moments of his career. Larry Bird later called the young Jordan ‘God disguised as Michael Jordan’.

How about Usain Bolt? Doug remembers the 2008 olympics in Beijing when Bolt easily won his first 100-meter gold medal, and had a big enough lead to even look to his left and pose for the camera.

No one will ever forget Tiger Woods’ dominant first win at the US Open in 2000 when he was a full 15 strokes up on the next ranked player.

Last but not least there was Bo Jackson’s first appearance on Monday Night Football versus the Seahawks in 1987 when he ran through the end zone all the way into the stadium tunnel.
