Colin Cowherd: 'Non-Elite' Dak Prescott Deserved Franchise Tag From Cowboys

Colin Cowherd: “I’ve never been one of those guys who wants my favorite star player to get paid. I want my team to be nimble. If you’re a Cowboys fan, Dak is never going to buy you a beer, forget giving you any money, so why do you care?? They offered him $33 million and he said 'NO'. This is a great country if you can turn down $33 million a year in a state with no income tax… Franchise tagging him is the move. Against New England and Philadelphia he had the better O-Line, the better running back, the better receivers, and in two games had ZERO touchdown drives, and lost both games. This is not a ‘deserves’ league, it’s an ‘earned’ league… Nobody has ever asked Dak to ‘carry’ this team. Best running back, best O-line, good receivers; he’s just been asked to drive the car and not drive it into a tree… His intangibles are great, but he is not ‘elite’ in any tangible quality.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he believes Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott did not deserve the lucrative long-term contract that he was aiming for on the heels of an unprecedented free agency period that boasts the greatest quarterback talent in NFL offseason history.

The Cowboys, instead, franchise tagged Prescott in a somewhat expected move that will force Prescott to play another season without financial stability, and more importantly, play another season with still much to prove on the field.

Despite ranking 2nd in the league in passing yards and 4th in the NFL QBR, Prescott's Cowboys went 8-8 and missed the playoffs, even during a morbid year for the NFC East with the Redskins and Giants arguably the two worst teams in the league, and the Eagles ruined by injuries.

Check out the video above as Colin details why he believes Dak should have taken the $33 million/per year deal he was reportedly offered last summer, and why he says there is no possible way that Prescott would deserve to be one of the top 5 highest paid quarterbacks in the league at this moment in time.
