Former NBA player JR Smith made news Sunday when video leaked of Smith kicking and beating an unidentified Los Angeles protester while on the ground, who allegedly was attempting to break into Smith’s car.
The low quality cell phone video of the incident was given to TMZ and began rapidly circulating around social media at the same time Smith released his own video explaining what exactly happened to try and get out in front of the situation. (Video at Bottom of Page)

Smith lives in Los Angeles where protests continue to run roughshod in the area over the killing of George Floyd while in police custody. Smith says some of the looters had made their way into Smith’s neighborhood before the former NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year winner took matters into his own hands
Smith played 15 seasons in the NBA for the New Orleans Hornets, Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, and Clevelander Cavaliers. Smith won the league's Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2013 while in New York, and won an NBA Championship in 2016 with the Cavaliers team who came back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the 73-win Warriors.
