Cops Find Homeless Man Living in Luxury Box of Florida Sports Stadium

Homeless Man Lived In Luxury Box At Florida Soccer Stadium For Two Weeks

A homeless man was arrested after he was found living in a luxury box at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Florida. The 7,500-seat stadium is home to the Tampa Bay Rowdies, a USL soccer club.

Authorities said the man, identified as Daniel Albert Neja, 39, had been living at the stadium for two weeks and stole $1,000 worth of merchandise from the team store, along with $200 worth of food and drinks.

Neja was discovered after a worker found blankets in one of the luxury suites. He was taken into custody on charges of third-degree felony burglary and a first-degree misdemeanor of resisting an officer without violence.

Officials are trying to determine how Neja managed to get into the stadium. According to the Tampa Bay Times, they believe he may have disguised himself as a member of the cleaning crew. They said that he was able to avoid detection for so long because the stadium has been closed to the public due to COVID-19.

"It's very unusual, and it's the sort of thing that probably would only happen during COVID, because under normal circumstances that stadium would be full of people, and luxury suites would be in use and cleaned regularly," St. Petersburg police spokeswoman Yolanda Fernandez said.
