President Trump Says NBA is Killing Its TV Ratings By Pushing Politics

Clay Travis: “How confident are you that come September 10th the NFL will be underway and everybody out there will be able to watch?”

President Donald Trump: "They want to open and they want to open badly, and they've been working with government, but I would say this: if they don't stand for the National Anthem, I hope they don't open. But other than that I would love to see them open and we're doing everything possible in getting them open. They can protest in other ways, they shouldn't protest our flag or our country...It’s been horrible for basketball. Look at the basketball ratings, they’re down to very, very low numbers and people are angry about it. They have enough politics with guys like me, they don’t need more as they’re going up for the shot. There was a nastiness about the NBA, the way it was done too. The NBA is in big trouble, and bigger trouble than they understand... You have to stand for your flag and your country."

Clay Travis: "It seems like every time you send a tweet an executive, coach, or player will come out and immediately fire back at you, but yet the NBA is taking billions of dollars from China, when there are all sorts of human rights violations going on there, and none of the players and none of the coaches will say a word about that. Does it feel hypocritical that athletes will rip the United States, they won’t stand for the anthem, they’ll rip you as the President, but they won’t say a negative word about China at all?”

President Donald Trump: "I haven’t noticed them sending things back at me, but I will say that I wouldn’t be surprised. Some are very, very nasty, and frankly very dumb... The way they catered to China, the way they bowed to China, it's a disgrace, frankly, and they make a lot more money here than they do from China. We have a system that allows you to disrespect your system. Too bad for them. They don’t appreciate what they have here."

Listen to President Donald Trump's interview on Outkick the Coverage with Clay Travis, discussing his disdain with National Anthem kneeling across major professional sports, and why he thinks the NBA is crushing its brand and its fan base by vehemently embracing politics.

Trump believes professional athletes have an obligation to respect their flag and respect their country, and says the players can ‘protest in other ways’ that don’t undermine the performing of the Star Spangled Banner.

When Clay asked the President about the hypocrisy of the NBA pushing social justice causes, yet staying silent on the ongoing human rights monstrosities in China, a valued business partner of the NBA no less, Trump said it’s ‘disgraceful’ how the NBA ‘catered’ and ‘bowed’ to China when it came to their dismissive and unsupportive demeanor towards Rockets GM Daryl Morey when he was being bombarded by Chinese nationalists for RT-ing his support for the pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong.

Check out the interview segment above as Trump details to Clay why he thinks modern American athletes don’t understand how good they have it in a country as free as the United States, and one that they seem to repeatedly condemn.
