2020 Blazin' 5 record: 9-10-1

Panthers at Falcons (SPREAD: ATL -2.5)

“I’ll take Atlanta and I only have to give up 2.5. Matt Ryan and Dan Quinn have actually always played Carolina well, especially at home. But this story is about the Panthers defense. They were bad last year and this year I think it’s the second worst in the league. Carolina’s defense is ranked 31st on third downs, they have the fewest sacks in the league, it’s the second worst scoring defense, and they’ve allowed seven rushing touchdowns – second most. This is a BAD defense. And I’ll say this about Atlanta, I don’t think they’ve quit on their coach, and their passing offense is still robust. I think they’re a desperate team and this is an easy one for me. I like Atlanta to score enough points to beat what I believe is the second worst defense in the NFL, 33-27, Falcons.”

Colin's pick: Atlanta -2.5

Jaguars at Texans (SPREAD: HOU -6)

“Couldn’t tell you the last time I took Jacksonville but I’m taking the Jags +6. Between Gardner Minshew and James Robinson the running back, they’ve got a pesky little offense. Teams that fire their coach midseason, Houston, are 2-6 against the spread the following week. They got REAL issues in Houston. Their offensive line is awful. They’re last in rushing offense and they can’t protect Deshaun Watson – he’s the most sacked quarterback in the league, and that’s Deshaun Watson who ESCAPES sacks. I do not believe you can correct a bad offensive line IN-season. There’s nothing on the market, nobody is giving away their good offensive linemen, and I’m going to take Jacksonville +6 to upset the Texans, who just fired their coach. You don’t have to love Bill O’Brien, but I thought schematically he was darn clever. 27-26, Jags."

Colin's pick: Jacksonville +6

Rams at Washington Football Team (SPREAD: LAR -7.5)

"Washington +7.5 I’ll take them. This is the third East Coast trip already for the Rams who also play rival San Francisco the following weekend and could be looking ahead. There’s a way to disrupt Sean McVay’s offense – PRESSURE. Chase Young is back and the Washington defense is top 3 in sacks, and top 4 in yards allowed. It’s a real good Washington defense getting star rookie Chase Young back. Kyle Allen is not great but he’s efficient, and when he started last year over Cam he was very good early until the world got film on him. Ron Rivera is telling you that he can win this division with this defensive personnel, we just can’t make mistakes. So what he is telling you is that Kyle Allen, at least from what he sees during practice, makes fewer mistakes than Haskins. I’m going to call the upset here. It’s the Rams’ third trip out East, Washington wins, UPSET, 24-23. Good defensive lines have disrupted Sean McVay’s running offense since he’s been in LA. Belichick sort of gave everyone the blueprint on how to disrupt the offense in the Super Bowl, and Washington will do that.”

Colin's pick: Washington +7.5

Colts at Browns (SPREAD: IND -1)

“Like the Colts? I LOVE THEM. Indy only has to give up one point and I’ll take them. Think about this, Cleveland is coming off their biggest national television win in a decade after beating the Cowboys. Cleveland LOVES themselves this morning. Good luck, the Colts defense leads the NFL in EVERYTHING. Points allowed, passer rating, yards, ALL levels. This is a GREAT Colts defense and the Browns' three wins have come against teams with a combined record of 3-8-1. The defense in Cleveland is still awful, but Dallas couldn’t expose it at the right time. Philip Rivers may be limited, but with this offensive line he is completing almost 73% of his passes. The Colts have the better O-Line, the better defense, Cleveland is highly emotional coming off that win over the Cowboys, and I’m going to take the Colts to win, 26-23.”

Colin's pick: Indianapolis -1

Vikings at Seahawks (SPREAD: SEA -7)

“Vikings +7. I know, DON’T bet against Russell Wilson, but I’m taking Minnesota +7 here. Chicago won last night, so what does that mean for Minnesota? Oh, hell, the Packers are winning, and the Bears are winning -- this is a MUST WIN for Minnesota with much more urgency in that division. The Bears are 4-1, and the Vikings HAVE to win now. Say what you want about Kirk Cousins on Monday Night Football, but on Sunday Night Football he’s been good. He’s 4-2 with 117 passer rating, he’s GREAT on Sunday Night Football. Dalvin Cook leads the lead in rushing, and Adam Thielen and rookie Justin Jefferson? Folks, Justin Jefferson is the next star wide receiver in this league. The Seahawks defense is atrocious, ATROCIOUS, and they’re on pace to allow the most yards, and the most passing yards of any team in the Super Bowl era. This is a Vikings offense stacked with weapons, and Kirk Cousins when given time will move the ball. Russell Wilson will do something miraculous to pull a ‘W’ out of an ‘L’, but I am absolutely going to take Minnesota and the 7 points, 27-26, Seahawks. WAY too many points to give Dalvin Cook, Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, good tight ends, and a capable offensive line.”

Colin's pick. Minnesota +7
