Pro Bowl NFL Running Back Arrested for DUI

Denver Broncos v New York Jets

Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon was charged with drunk driving after getting pulled over for speeding on Tuesday (October 13) night. Gordon was pulled over in downtown Denver for driving 71 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Officers noted in the probable cause statement that Gordon had watery eyes, slurred speech, and that his breath smelled of alcohol. They said that he exhibited "validated indicators of impairment" and failed a field sobriety test. He was taken into custody and is expected to be arraigned on Friday, November 13.

Gordon is likely to face discipline from the NFL. Under the collective bargaining agreement ratified in March, the penalty for DUIs was increased from a two-game suspension to a three-game suspension.

The Broncos issued a brief statement about the incident.

"We are aware of the situation involving Melvin Gordon. Our organization has been in communication with him and is in the process of gathering more details."

Gordon was at the team facility on Wednesday and was expected to participate in practice.

He had his best game since 2019, rushing for 107 yards on 23 carries, including a 43-yard touchdown run in the Broncos Week 4 victory over the New York Jets.

Gordon leads the 1-3 Broncos with 65 carries, 281 rushing yards, and three rushing touchdowns.
