Sam Darnold Has Become the New Mark Sanchez Disaster for the Jets

Sam Darnold is the New Mark Sanchez in New York
Jason Smith: “When I watch Sam Darnold play, you know who I see? I see Mark Sanchez. He does the same things well that Sanchez does, and he does the same things poorly that Sanchez did. When Darnold can hit on his first or second progression quickly, he’s good, and those are his best games. He’s like a machine when he can hit on his first or second progression on three-step, or five-step drop throws. When he can do THAT he’s really good, but how often is your first or second option always there that quickly after the snap? On broken plays he’s really good too when he gets outside the pocket, keeps a play alive, and finds a guy open down the field because the coverage has loosened up. Sanchez used to do the same things really well. But those are really specific things, and it’s not like they happen on every play. Like Sanchez, he struggles in all other facets. He misses open receivers. Sanchez wouldn't see guys open down the field… When Darnold looks down the field, I don’t know if he knows what he sees. When he’s under duress, clearly he makes really bad decisions. When you look down the field and try to force it to players who are covered, you are never going to succeed. And this is while other guys are open, and Darnold can't get it to them. They drafted Darnold and Sanchez to be ‘THAT GUY’, but they're not.” (Full Audio Above)

Listen to Jason Smith explain why he thinks Sam Darnold has become the 2020 version of Mark Sanchez on the New York Jets, as Smith thinks the Jets have yet another highly touted USC bust at quarterback who failed to live up to lofty expectations.

Darnold is still just 23-years-old, but is 11-20 as Jets starter, and ranks second to last in QBR at the moment, with a nightmare 3/6 touchdown-to-interception ratio, and 65.0 passer rating to boot.

Check out the audio above as Smith details why It’s time for the Jets focus their attention on drafting Trevor Lawrence and distancing themselves from the former third overall pick from 2018.
