Colin Cowherd: James Harden Proved He's Not a Franchise Player

Colin Cowherd: “James Harden is obviously a ‘number one’. Or is he?? To me, there are only four players in the NBA you can hand the franchise to and they have all the components of a number one. They can score, they can at least give you an effort defensively, they can lead in crucial spots, they can at times elevate others, and you can’t marginalize them. They don’t have a hole in their game that you can always marginalize. There’s four – Kevin Durant, LeBron, Steph Curry, and Kawhi Leonard. What about Giannis? You can marginalize Giannis. ‘Go ahead, bro, shoot!’ James Harden is incredibly ball-centric and barely gives an effort on the defensive end. Being a ‘one’ is not just about scoring. Daryl Morey was convinced that this guy could be the centerpiece an we’d just find guys who can play with him. They found out that they struggled to get past the first round. He’s not a one, he’s potentially the world’s best two… There’s been dozens of guys who have been great scorers, but you don’t get the leadership, they don’t play on the defensive end, they don’t really elevate anyone besides themselves, and you can marginalize them. Let Harden be the ‘SCORER’ not ‘THE MAN.’” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he doesn’t think James Harden is a true ‘number one’ franchise player, and why he doesn’t think Harden would ever win an NBA Finals championship as the featured player of a team.

Check out the video above as Colin explains why players like Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo may win MVPs, but they’ll never win titles unless they’re alongside a true NUMBER ONE like LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, or Steph Curry.
