Doug Gottlieb: “We continue to miss the point here on Lamar Jackson. The more people see him, the more people adjust to him. That is not a great Titans defense; I don’t think anyone would argue otherwise… The Ravens offense got stymied, they got stuck, and Lamar continues to be inaccurate and unable to make some of those throws. I almost feel like now I’m defending Lamar in that he’s not THAT bad, but there are some moments where there are such bad misses… This is the important point to make; he’s not the only MVP quarterback who’s not really a great quarterback. Cam Newton had one great year, two good years, and two REALLY good years as a starter in the NFL. He’s been in the NFL for a decade. Matt Ryan has had some really good years, and one great year, but if I say the name Matt Ryan, or even Joe Flacco, who played great and won a Super Bowl, you’d say he wasn’t elite. Lamar Jackson was the MVP, is he a great quarterback? No. He does have some dynamic skills to him – arm strength, great speed and elusiveness, he can throw it a mile, and he’s fairly accurate. It’s the outside the number throws that he’s just off… Mahomes, Rodgers, and Russell Wilson is your top tier, and then there’s a chunk of quarterbacks, but I’m not even sure Lamar is part of the next chunk, even though he was the MVP last year. He’s not playing as poorly as Carson Wentz, but he’s surrounded by a better team than Carson Wentz… I don’t think that Lamar’s struggles are anything special and specific to Lamar, I think that’s just a league that eats their young.” (Full Audio Above)
