Doug Gottlieb: Jalen Hurts is Not a 'Long-Term' Starting Quarterback

Doug Gottlieb: Jalen Hurts is Not a 'Long-Term' Solution For Eagles
Doug Gottlieb: “They basically ran a college offense which we’ve seen work a million times over in short doses. If you think a 56% completion percentage is gonna do it, and 167 yards passing is gonna do it, then you’re mistaken. They made the reads clear and simple, and if you didn’t like what you read, then you ran the football. That’s what they had him do at Oklahoma. No one said it wasn’t effective, no one is saying that Jalen Hurts is not good in that style, but the problem remains that THAT style doesn’t work long-term once people see it on tape… We didn’t learn anything about Jalen Hurts long-term, and long-term that’s not what the Eagles want to run offensively. We all know how this ends, but does it end with a peaceful transition back to Carson Wentz? The same people who are like ‘Taysom Hill can’t be a long-term answer at quarterback for the Saints!’ are the same people trying to tell you that Jalen Hurts is the answer for the Philadelphia Eagles… How many times are we going to fall for this saying ‘THIS GUY IS GOING TO BE THE ANSWER!’ RGIII, Vince Young, Tim Tebow, I can keep going on… Lamar is the BEST EVER at it, but he can’t win a playoff game, and this year it’s become more and more of an issue… There’s a reason even Alabama had to make a change. No matter how good Nick Saban was, he didn’t think he could win it all with Jalen Hurts, and to a certain extent, that’s what the Eagles will find. It was great for their energy, great for their mojo, but you can’t play that way long-term. People figure it out, quarterbacks get hurt, wide receivers get ticked because they don’t get enough balls, and it’s just not a long-term deal.” (Full Audio Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain why he doesn’t think recently installed Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts is a long-term starter in the NFL, as Doug says Hurts’ first win as a pro in a Week 14 shocker against New Orleans will be short-lived ecstasy.

Check out the audio above as Gottlieb details why running quarterbacks like Hurts, Robert Griffin III, Tim Tebow, and Vince Young always look sexy and transcendent in the beginning, but ALL of them come crashing back down to earth rather quickly and predictably.
