No Elite Wide Receiver Would Ever Want to Play With Lamar Jackson
Doug Gottlieb: “Lamar Jackson is ELECTRIC, nobody is arguing that, but he had 162 yards passing, 83 of those yards in the final 1:51 of the game, and 44 yards on that Hollywood Brown pass when two Browns defenders ran into each other, that’s why he was so wide open. This was against the Browns who didn’t have their best cornerback, and they’re 27th in points allowed, 24th on 3rd down, and 23rd in red zone defense… Lamar is still freakishly athletic and he still throws a very good deep ball. He is crazy competitive, but do you know what he’s not? He’s not crazy accurate, and they’re trying to put him in less and less positions to do progression reads, throw outside the numbers, and play to his strengths, which is smart, but there’s a ceiling. When you start playing against real playoff defenses, under 200 yards passing generally does not cut it. People are going to figure it out, people are going to adjust if they have the right personnel, and there is a ceiling there because of his inaccuracy and his inability to throw it downfield. I found it fascinating that they said the 'Ravens need to draft a wide receiver.’ Ain’t no top-level receiver signing up for that. I’m going to get 3, 4 balls a game? Free-agent wide receivers are not signing up for that.” (Full Audio Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain why he thinks Lamar Jackson’s electric play is unparalleled, but also why it’s a playing style that still has a limited ceiling because of his continued inability to throw the ball down the field with accuracy.

Check out the audio above as Gottlieb questions why the ‘Monday Night Football’ announcers said the Ravens need to acquire a Pro Bowl-caliber wide receiver in the offseason, as Gottlieb says no top-flight wide receiver would ever want to play with a limited passer like Lamar.
