JJ Watt is Washed Up

Stop Acting Like JJ Watt is Still Good
Jason Smith: “This is the Cam Newton story of a year ago where people were freaking out when Newton made a video throwing. Now it’s 2020 and Cam Newton hasn’t been ‘that guy’ in 5 years. He stunk this year and showed he’s probably going to be out there all offseason, and maybe he’s done in the NFL. He hadn’t been good in a long time. This is not that JJ Watt that hasn’t been good, but this is the JJ Watt who’s been injured, he’s going to be 32-years-old, and he hasn’t been a difference-maker since 2015 when he was in his run as best defensive player of the National Football League… His tackles for loss are half of what they were in his heyday, his quarterback hits are half of what they were during his heyday, he had only 5 sacks this year, and he’s just not the same guy. He’s a big name. Just because you show me 2014 videos of him knocking down a pass from Mark Sanchez at the line of scrimmages, doesn’t mean that’s JJ Watt. This is a guy who is going to be a part-time player, and he’s not going to give you numbers. He’s going to be brought in for his leadership abilities more than anything else.” (Full Audio Above)

Listen to Jason Smith explain why he doesn’t see future Hall of Famer JJ Watt being much of an impact player wherever he lands, as Jason compares Watt to Cam Newton of the last offseason, as a big-name free agent who is simply living off his past reputation as a star.

Check out the audio above as Smith details why he thinks Watt’s future team will be getting a ‘part-time’ player with puny stats.
