(Full Video at Bottom of Page) Dan Campbell at his introductory press conference: “This team is going to take on the identity of this city. This city has been down and it found a way to get up. It’s found a way to overcome adversity. We’re going to kick you in the teeth. When you punch us back we’re going to smile at you, and when you knock us down we’re going to get up and on the way up we’re going to bite a kneecap off. We’re going to stand up and then it’s going to take two more shots to knock us down. On the way up we’re going to take your other kneecap, and then it’s going to take us three shots to get us down, and when we do we’re going to take another chunk out of you. Before long, we’re going to be the last one standing.”

Dan Patrick: “Did you watch your initial press conference with the Lions??”
Campbell: “No I didn’t. I had friends that were sending me bits and pieces of it. I have not watched the entirety of it, no.”
DP: “What did you think of your performance?”
Campbell: “It was fine. Look, I wear my heart on my sleeve a little bit, it’s just kind of who I am. It’s hard for me to be something that I’m not. I just felt like I wanted to do something for the city of Detroit, our fans, and that was my first introduction to my players. I just felt like that’s who I needed to talk to, and then once I got going a little bit, man, it just kind of GOES from there. For everybody who thinks that I don’t know that biting kneecaps is not a personal foul in the NFL, believe me, I know that… The people I heard from are the people who know me, so to them, it was right in line of what they knew I was. That was just kind of ‘me’, and how I talk. You can’t take everything literally. I just want there to be this toughness about us. The league now has changed in such a way – for the better, but not always for the better – yet there is still this element of having to be tough. This is a tough man’s game.” (Full Segment Above)
