In the video above, Chris Broussard & Rob Parker react to Steph Curry surpassing Ray Allen to become the all-time 3-point shooting leader in NBA history. Fox Sports Radio update anchor Ralph Irvin reported the following:
"With his second three point field goal in tonight's game in New York against the Knicks, Steph Curry passed Ray Allen as the NBA's all time three point shooting leader. Curry hit the record breaking shot with 7:32 remaining in the 1st quarter."
While it's certainly a moment to be celebrated as Curry leaves his mark in the history books, Rob Parker has a bone to pick with this idea that somehow Steph Curry has cemented himself as the greatest shooter ever. Parker believes that Curry's lack of great shots in clutch moments keeps him from being worthy of such a title:
Rob Parker: "Years from now, you'll look back at it, and it'll be comical because you'll realize that it has more to do with the game and guys putting up threes more so than it being about Steph Curry. Steph's record probably won't last that long because, in his first four years, Steph had 643 threes made. Donovan Mitchell, in his first three seasons, made 726. So he's already had way more in his first four, and now Trae Young is coming up behind him, Chris. Currently, in his fourth season, he's on pace for 710. All I'm saying is, the numbers are astronomical, and there will be guys coming behind him shooting even more threes than maybe Steph even attempted to start. And, they'll play and this record will be changing hands over and over and over."
Chris Broussard disputes this take and talks about how Steph Curry is one of the greatest shooters ever and Rob responds saying:
Rob Parker: "To be the greatest shooter, you've gotta have those moments where people go, WOW, I can't believe Steph knocked that down and won the game!' Instead, it's 'Oh Steph; he missed another one.' Go look at the videos! They're all over youtube, all the misses when the Warriors need them most! You talk about the 'greatest shooter,' but he ain't clutch. It doesn't make sense to crown somebody the greatest shooter, but they can't make big shots in big moments. It's a contradiction! He's the best 3-point shooter because he has the most makes? I'll give you that. As I stand here today, and I need a big shot to win a big game, I don't want Steph Curry near the ball! If he's throwing up a half-court shot or a circus shot for the crowd, I want Steph Curry. If I want the game to be won at the buzzer, I don't want the ball near Steph Curry. He doesn't make those shots!"
