Colin Cowherd Defends Chargers HC Brandon Staley For Fourth Down Failures

Colin Cowherd: “Easy targets are analytics and going for it on fourth down. This morning everybody is going crazy: ‘WHAT IS BRANDON STALEY DOING?!’ Urban Meyer didn’t get fired because he lost games, he got fired because he lost the locker room. Robert Saleh isn’t winning much either but the players still believe in him and respect him. You do not lose a locker room going for it on fourth down. Locker rooms are full of aggressive alpha males, they wanna go for it. You can lose 'games' but Brandon Staley didn’t lose a single player in that locker room. The Chargers have great offensive personnel, they should go for it all the time. This is not the Texans, when you have great players you should be more aggressive. Analytics are an easy target but if they don’t fumble at the 2-yard line they go up 21-13, and we could have a different outcome… I do think this is something that will work to their advantage. They go for it so regularly, and the Chargers are so aggressive on fourth that it will be a great decoy at some point perhaps in the playoffs, or in a big game, where they just rush to the line, the defense is going, they’ve gone for it three times, and they’re going to eventually get a penalty on this. We're complaining about results instead of the reality of the statistics, THEY WORK. The Chargers have an IDENTITY and there is clarity in that locker room. You know who doesn’t have an identity? The Jets, the Giants, Detroit, Jacksonville. Do you know in the previous 20 years who went for it on 4th more than any other team? Belichick and Brady. If you’ve got a Hall of Fame talent and a great coach, fourth and two isn’t a big gamble.” (Full Video Above)
