Alabama Defensive Coordinator Pete Golding Gets Arrested

Alabama defensive coordinator Stephen Thomas 'PeteGolding was reportedly arrested and charged with driving under the influence early Thursday (February 3) morning.

AL.com reports Golding was arrested at 1:00 a.m. in Northport, Assistant Chief Keith Carpenter with the Northport Police Department confirmed.

The 37-year-old remained in the Tuscaloosa County Jail as of publication Thursday morning.

No additional details regarding Golding's arrest were initially released.

Golding joined Alabama's staff as a defensive assistant ahead of the Tide's College Football Playoff appearances in December 2017 and initially shared defensive coordinator duties with Tosh Lupoi in 2018 before being officially promoted to defensive coordinator in 2019.

Alabama has made the College Football Playoff during three of Golding's four seasons as defensive coordinator, which included a national championship in 2020-21.

Golding had previously served as defensive coordinator/cornerbacks coach in 2016-17; defensive backs coach at Southern Miss from 2014-15; defensive coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana from 2012-13; defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach at his alma matter, Delta State, from 2010-11, where he also served as a graduate assistant in 2006; and defensive coordinator/defensive backs at Tusculum College from 2007-09.

Golding is also credited as an ace recruiter, having helped Alabama sign the top-ranked class in 2021 and the No. 2 class for 2022 on Wednesday (February 2).

“I think Pete has a great personality. I think he spends a lot of time with players," head coach Nick Saban said of his defensive coordinator during National Signing Day on Wednesday via AL.com. "And I think it’s all about relationships. I know that we have a good product here. Pete does a great job of selling that product. But I think in the end, the players know that he cares about them. Players really don’t know what you know until they know that you care.”
