Why Bill Belichick is Wrong to Say Tom Brady is Best Player in NFL History

In the video above, Chris Broussard & Rob Parker talk in-depth about Bill Belichick's comments after Tom Brady's official decision to retire from football. Belichick said the following in a Twitter post from the New England Patriots:

"I am privileged to have drafted and coached Tom Brady, the ultimate competitor and winner. Tom's humble beginning in professional football ultimately ended with him becoming the best player in NFL history. Tom consistently performed at the highest level against competition that always made him the number one player to stop. His pursuit of excellence was inspirational. Tom was professional on and off the field, and carried himself with class, integrity, and kindness. I thank Tom for his relentless pursuit of excellence and positive impact on me and the New England Patriots for 20 years."

While it's easy to give Tom Brady high praise considering his accomplishments, Chris and Rob think there's a healthy conversation to be had before crowning Brady, the "best player in NFL History:

Rob Parker: "As usual, it's a quarterback league. We give the quarterback a ton of credit. Nobody else matters in football or so it seems. And I just think it's over the top. And I'm shocked by him saying that because Bill Belichick had Lawrence Taylor with the Giants. That was his guy. That's who helped make Bill Belichick as a defensive coordinator who won two Super Bowls with the Giants. Lawrence Taylor changed football with the stuff that he was able to do...LT, for me, if I have to pick somebody, there's Jim Brown who did unbelievable things, Jerry Rice who was an all-time great and it's hard for me to look at a quarterback and honestly say 'he's the greatest football player who ever played.'"

Chris Broussard: "I've come to the conclusion, because as much as I think Tom Brady is the GOAT quarterback, I'm not gonna kill those who say he's the best football player because they're looking at it as 'Hey he does what he does. We're not saying he can tackle. We're not saying he's fast. We're just saying, for what he's called to do as a player, He does it terrifically.' I understand that but I have come to the conclusion that I think the NFL should have a separate award for quarterbacks just like the Cy Young is for pitchers. You would never say, Roger Clemens, Sandy Koufax is the best baseball player. And I have a hard time saying Tom Brady is the best football player."
