Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray released a lengthy statement this morning calling on the Cardinals to pay him what he thinks he is worth. He flat-out tells them they need to prioritize him over other aspects of their team. Dan Patrick finds his timing to be suspect (at best), and likely just a play for public sympathy as he tries to drag more money of the Cardinals. Dan thinks Kyler is missing some perspective here because, if he gets paid what he is demanding they won’t be able to afford to put a competitive team around him and his chances to win a Super Bowl will plummet.
Dan Patrick: “This is where you go the court of public opinion, ‘Kyler Murray’s committed to the Cardinals, are the Cardinals committed to him, question mark...’ This just feels like, ‘Let’s release this, leak this at 8:45 Eastern time so all the morning shows are going to pick up on this. And here’s Kyler! Kyler wants to be here!’ You know, it’s a slow day. Like, what is the big topic today? (Well) it is now! You know baseball, you can talk about the lockout, but people don’t want to hear about labor pains, they want to see the baby. They don’t care about this. Kyler Murray now: he put the Cardinals ‘on blast’ as the kids like to say.”
