Chris Broussard: “This is a whole different matter compared to the Suns and Kings resting their starters... It’s been tossed out there that Luka could leave the Mavericks if they aren’t building the right team around them. We haven’t seen international players move around often, but this is the type of thing that could tick Luka Doncic off! I’m not saying you should just kiss the superstar’s feet and give in to whatever they want, but I am saying he’s fully within his right to believe he’s playing for an organization that doesn’t want to compete! He’s playing for an organization that has him, a top 5 player in the league, Kyrie Irving who can score on anybody, and they’re tanking for a 10th pick? Luka is trying to win championships and build a legacy, and he’s playing for some chumps who are deciding to mail it in with two games left! ... I want Luka to stay, but if this ticks him off to the point where he wants out, more power to him. And the fact that he’s going out there tonight to play for a quarter, is just sticking it in the owner’s face... The Mavs should just call Adam Silver and forfeit.”
Rob Parker: “This is 100% an NBA disgrace. I hate to keep bringing up the late-David Stern, but the NBA worked differently. Adam Silver has been run over. What are they doing? Refund everyone’s money if they’re not going to play. Allow people to go to the box office and get their money back... Didn’t they go to the Conference Finals last year? So you mean to tell me, you’re going to waste another year of Luka? They might go on a run, especially with Kyrie on their team. It’s pathetic they’re throwing in the towel for a pick. You shouldn’t have made the trade if you were so concerned about the pick.”
