Dave Portnoy Won $1.6 Million on This Celtics Parlay

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy won big on the Boston Celtics' NBA championship Monday (June 17) night.

The Massachusetts native shared a photo of the receipt for his two-pick DraftKings Sportsbook parlay of the Celtics as the NBA Finals winner and Scottie Scheffler as the outright winner of the 2024 RBC Heritage tournament in April. Portnoy, 47, wagered $100,000 on the Celtics-Scheffler parlay with DraftKings, who announced its partnership with Barstool Sports earlier this year.

“It’s not about the money but I’ll take the quick 1.6 milly," Portnoy wrote on his X account with the photo of the bet receipt as the Celtics had a comfortable lead with time winding down in Game 5 of the NBA Finals Monday (June 17) night.

Barstool Sports' DraftKings partnership came months after Penn Entertainment resold the company to Portnoy for a reported $1 amid its gambling partnership with ESPN. Portnoy claims to have won several massive DraftKings bets this year, which includes $1 million on his alma mater, the University of Michigan, in the College Football Playoff, $500,000 on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, $2.1 million on UConn in the NCAA men's basketball national championship and $1.3 million on Scheffler winning the Masters which, along with his latest parlay win and other bets, totals more than $7 million.

"Guys I hate to be that guy but I have the Celtics for 1.1 million and the Oilers for another million. If both those teams win I will be up 7.5 million in 2024 and have won every big event this year. This run should be taught in history books," Portnoy wrote on his X account earlier this month.

The Celtics cruised to a 106-88 win against the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 Monday night. The win marked Boston's NBA record 18th championship in franchise history, which surpassed a record previously shared with the rival Los Angeles Lakers.

Boston finished the 2023-24 regular season with an NBA-best 64-18 record (.780 winning percentage), which included going 37-4 at TD Garden. The Celtics went 16-3 during the NBA Playoffs, which included sweeping the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals and winning every other series in five games.

Boston won its last last NBA championship came in 2008 and appeared in the NBA Finals in 2010, 2022 and 2024.
