Kevin Durant led the United States Men's Basketball Team to a 103-86 win against South Sudan in Group C play, advancing to the quarterfinals at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Wednesday (July 31).
Durant, 35, the all-time leading scorer for USA Basketball in Olympic play, recorded 14 points, which included going 8 of 9 from the free throw line, as well as three assists, two rebounds and three steals off the bench. Bam Adebayo, who also came off the bench, led all scorers with 18 points on 8 of 10 shooting, while also recording seven rebounds.
LeBron James, a two-time gold medalist (2008 Beijing, 2012 London) and one-time bronze medalist (2004 Athens), finished Wednesday's game with 12 points, five assists and six rebounds. The Americans were coming off a 110-84 win in their opening Group C game against Serbia on Sunday (July 28).
Durant could become the first basketball player in history to win four gold medals should the heavily-favored USA team win out in Paris. The three-time gold medalist (2012 London, 2016 Rio de Janeiro, 2020 Tokyo) was officially ruled as active about an hour before Sunday's game after missing all five of Team USA's pre-Olympic exhibition games due to a calf strain.
