“Free agency is the lazy General Manager’s way to build a franchise.”
Even though it’s quite tempting to see big name players completely available on the open market, Colin Cowherd thinks teams that try and get better through free agency always go down in flames.
Cowherd mentioned the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles as a prime example, a the team infamously dabbed the ‘Dream Team’, went a disappointing 8-8 after they signed Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Jason Babin during one off-season.
Cowherd said how that particular style of reloading is never as effective as the age-old method of constructing through the Draft, with a team like Kansas City having executed it to perfection with their team’s core the likes of Dontari Poe, Eric Berry, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Marcus Peters, and Tamba Hali, all having been handpicked in the Draft.
