B/R - Two hours after signing Jose Calderon, the Golden State Warriors waived him to make room for Matt Barnes.
An injury to Kevin Durant prompted them to cut the point guard loose for a forward. At least the veteran will always have the brief tenure to remember.
And a jersey that was never worn. And a check significantly larger than most people's annual salary.
Shortly after the signing, the Warriors crafted a uniform for Calderon. He never got the opportunity to don the new jersey, captured by USA Today's Michael Singer. At least the 35-year-old received $415,000 for his troubles, per Sam Amick of USA Today:
First of all, that becomes the coolest jersey to own in the entire NBA right? If you're a fan of the sport you need to get your hands on a Calderon game worn (lol) Warriors jersey. It's one of a kind and completely fictional.
Anyways, regarding the specific story, this is how massive the professional sports leagues have truly become. Money is just being handed out like it's a Calipari team in the 90's and everyone seems to be getting a huge payday.
Brock Osweiler did it best, but this heist is a close second for Calderon.
