The reason the NBA season ends in June was originally due to the idea of 'summer vacation' among it's fanbase, and the fear that once people got out of school or embarked on summer trips they would stop following the league as in-depth as they would prior.
That seems a bit outdated at the moment, and it should probably be the first thing addressed when discussing ways to possibly improve the scheduling to combat the trend of players resting when healthy. The schedule currently has too many back-to-back games and the schedule is too condensed.
