When it comes to NFL celebration penalties and keeping players in check, a lot of people are missing the point or motive behind the league's actions. Sure it has a lot to do with showmanship, integrity, and respect for opponents, but it also comes from a place of concern for player safety.
Take Cam Newton for example. Do you think his massive hits that he suffered this season were from players who were possibly pissed off about his celebrations the year prior when his team was great? How would a defensive player hit a guy who just scored a touchdown and pulled out a cell phone in 2017? Probably a lot more maliciously than he would prior, and it's already a dangerous sport.
