Pirates of the Caribbean - Ramos Movie Review

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

The 5th installment of the hugely successful franchise is back and ready to keep the story of Captain Jack Sparrow rolling.  POTC: Dead Men Tells No Tales opens Fri May 26th and is rated PG-13, distributed by Disney.

Well, the Captain is back… but is he better than ever?

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is thrust into another adventure, this time attempting to find the Trident of Poseidon, a so-called “non-existent legend” that is supposed to end all curses.  He is helped in this quest from none other than his old friend Will Turner’s (Orlando Bloom) son Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites) who is trying to find the Trident so his father can be released from his curse that keeps him aboard the Flying Dutchman.  Obviously, they need each other, but a young lady named Carina Smythe (Kaya Scodelario) throws another wrench in the fold as she, too, is searching for this Trident and only can all three together find this magical thing.

Oh, by the way, Jack is being hunted by the famous Captain Armando Salazar (Javier Bardem) who many, many years earlier was stopped on his quest to rid the seas of Pirates by a young Jack Sparrow, who sent Salazar and his crew into an eternal curse. Now he wants his revenge on Jack.

Dead Men Tell No Tales, which runs 2 hours and 5 minutes, is directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning. It’s a really good movie. I felt like it went back to making Jack Sparrow the center, giving that character a chance to be crazy and nonsensical, but still be in charge or everything as well.  We also get some more from Captain Barbossa (Geoffry Rush) whom I really enjoy, because he embodies the Pirate that we love. He has some heart, but ultimately it’s all about himself.

It was zany and had lots of sea battles (which I love) throughout. There is nothing like cannons ablaze in the midst of a comedy.  I Loved Javier as well as he always brings a ruthless bad guy (Captain Salazar) to life, as he did previously in Skyfall and No Country for Old Men.  I wasn’t a fan of the last Pirates (On Stranger Tides) but this one gets us back on track for some fun and adventure… oh and more Johnny Depp, because that’s what we really want, right?

Escape your dry land for some sea fun and take in the newest Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
