Defining and quantifying success is one of the hardest things to do in any line of work. Sports are no different, and the way we label some players as 'champions' and others as 'failures' can sometimes be flawed or mistaken.
At the end of the day, the one thing we always have at our disposal is a concrete measurement of wins and losses. That is the way we can easily put everyone on the same playing field and decide who is best.
