The United States Women's Soccer Team defeated Australia, 2-1, on Wednesday (July 31) to win all three of its Group B stage matches and advance to the knockout round in first-place at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Trinity Rodman, who scored in the Americans' pre-opening ceremony match against Zambia and assisted in Sunday's (July 28) win against Germany, scored first in the 43rd minute to give the Americans a 1-0 lead at halftime. Korbin Albert, who made her debut on the world stage by replacing veteran Rose Lavelle, scored in the 77th minute.
Australia pressured late when Alanna Kennedy scored a goal during the first minute of added time, but the Americans managed to stop several threats, including a crucial corner kick in the seventh and final minute of extra time.
