Colin Cowherd: “Nobody in the media ever wants to take blowback, but I’ll take Sam Darnold over Baker Mayfield for the next 12-14 years.” (FULL AUDIO AT BOTTOM OF PAGE)
Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he believes New York Jets starting quarterback Sam Darnold will have a better career than Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, as the two young signal callers are about to start their second professional seasons.
Mayfield and Darnold will certainly be compared the rest of their careers, as the two will forever be tied together for being the first two quarterbacks taken in a memorable 2018 NFL Draft that also yielded first round quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.
Although Mayfield had one of the greatest rookie seasons in NFL history, Colin says Darnold is the better bet for the long term as Cowherd argues that Mayfield was drafted into a much better situation in Cleveland from a personnel standpoint, as the team was already equipped with lethal weapons like Jarvis Landry and David Njoku, whereas Darnold's Jets had one of the NFL’s most harmless offenses on paper.
Colin also believes Mayfield has had a major head start on Darnold as well, as Mayfield worked with offensive geniuses like Kliff Kingsbury and Lincoln Riley in college, while Darnold was on a dysfunctional USC team going through a rough transition since Pete Carroll’s exit.
