The Real Reason Why NBA Ratings Have Gotten So Low

Jason Whitlock: “The NBA could be on the verge of having their greatest playoff in recent memory, but the only thing wrong with this NBA is this whole swallowing of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ narrative. I just don’t need it, and I don’t need to be thinking about police brutality and a bunch of tall people wagging their fingers at me and preaching to me. I just want them to play basketball and I just want to enjoy it… If not for the politics, the NBA would be the biggest success story from the pandemic because people would see a level of play, and a level of enthusiasm and energy, that they’re not used to seeing from the NBA, even in the playoffs. They’re going to dirty it up by focusing on politics… A buddy texted something hilarious to me over the weekend. Kevin Garnett was doing some kind of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ type game on NBA TV or TNT and he had to read the words on the spinning wheel, and the word ‘equivalent’ came up. He couldn’t read the word equivalent. I mean, it’s hysterical. It’s politically incorrect to talk about it, but I couldn’t care less. This is my overall point about these really tall and amazing athletes. These NBA players have been developing their physical games their entire life because that’s the smart thing to do, and there’s a big pot of gold if they can develop it. These aren’t rocket scientists and these aren’t leaders of the free world. These are basketball players. Not calling them stupid, they’re making the best decisions based on the physical gifts that God blessed them with, but I’m sorry, when I saw Kevin Garnett couldn’t pronounce the word ‘equivalent’ I was thinking ‘And this is the guy who is going to help fix America?’ I wasn’t talking about Kevin Garnett specifically, I was just thinking ‘this is the group of people who are going to fix America?’ People that struggle reading ‘equivalent.’ I used to be an athlete, I get it. If you have that much physical skill, develop it, that’s the smart thing to do. But you’re not a rocket scientist.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Jason Whitlock join Outkick the Coverage to discuss why he believes the NBA television ratings have strangely been so low, despite the action on the court producing some of the most captivating basketball that the sport has produced in years.

Check out the full segment above as Whitlock details to Clay Travis why he thinks the NBA failed its viewers by continuously embracing politics, and why he thinks the American public has no interest in hearing an NBA player lecture them when really the athlete's only name to fame is hitting the genetics lottery.
