Doug Gottlieb: Cam Newton Would Rather Be a Social Media Star than NFL Star

Doug Gottlieb: “There is a separation between social media and the real world… Cam Newton doesn’t have a job and there is a litany of reasons why… It looks cool but does it really translate the message you want to show the rest of the NFL? I think the answer is ‘not really.’ If you’re trying to get likes, put it on IG. If you’re trying to get better you should be working with specialists. I’m not disputing it looks cool, but if you are trying to sell yourself to an NFL team as ‘being ready’, have a specialist working with you, show us film of you working on your footwork and your release, and the ability to replicate time and again the exact same release…. He is still trying to be a social media star and not an NFL star. All these quarterbacks are out doing their work, but you’re the only one putting out a music video.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb discuss a recent video Cam Newton dropped on Instagram that featured Newton working out on a football field with Odell Beckham Jr.

The video obviously appears to be a pump-up tape for Newton’s return to the NFL, but Gottlieb sees it more as self-serving and as an upload that was only meant to get likes on Instagram, than an actual tape that NFL teams could watch and make them pick up the phone.

Check out the video above as Gottlieb details why he thinks Newton looks more interested in being a social media star than an NFL star at this point in his diminishing career.
