Doug Gottlieb Says Deshaun Watson is Not a Star Quarterback

Doug Gottlieb: “Deshaun Watson is clutch, he’s talented, and he’s a super likeable leader of a guy, but I’m not sure he’s a star quarterback. Remember they had a 24-0 lead against the Chiefs in the playoffs? When they collapsed who got the blame? Bill O’Brien, even though Deshaun Watson was the quarterback of that team. They’re 0-4 on the season. Brady has never started 0-4, Rodgers has never started 0-4, Russell Wilson has never started 0-4, and Lamar Jackson never started 0-4… Watson is 20th in completion percentage, he holds the football a little too long. He’s 25th in QBR, and he’s taking 16 sacks, the most in the league. People blame the offensive line, but they’ve rebuilt this offensive line to help him, and some of those bad habits from holding the football still hold true, even with the rebuilt offensive line. I think he’s ‘good’. I wouldn’t replace him, I don’t think he stinks, but his contract says he should be otherworldly great. He has NOT been close to otherworldly great, and he’s been much closer to average. Not even ‘above average’, but AVERAGE… You got your coach fired. If he was better and he was balling, and he was lighting the league up they wouldn’t be 0-4, and Bill O’Brien wouldn’t have gotten fired… He hasn’t been nearly as good as our image said he should be.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain why he doesn’t believe Deshaun Watson is a star quarterback, as Doug believes Watson’s terrible play in 2020 ultimately got Bill O’Brien fired from the winless Texans.

Check out the segment above as Gottlieb details why he think Watson’s perception around the league is much higher than the reality of his actual NFL skill sets.
