Jason Whitlock: Why the NBA Should Be Careful of Their Josh Giddey Outrage

Jason Whitlock: “I wanna get into Patrick Beverley and some of these silly athletes that want to use Josh Giddey as a talking point. It’s all appealing to social media -- ‘HEY, I WENT ON ESPN AND TALKED ABOUT JOSH GIDDEY!’... He [Patrick Beverley] is subtly playing the race card. Donald Trump in New York -- there were some charges they wanted to bring against Donald Trump in New York, so they extended the window an extra year for women to file domestic violence charges or accusations, or sexual assault charges. It was done in a move to get Donald Trump and everybody was like ‘YEAH! GET DONALD TRUMP! LET’S CHANGE THE RULES AND CHANGE THE STATUE OF LIMITATIONS!’... And then a year later that came back to bite in the rear end: Jamie Foxx, Marcellus Wiley, and a bunch of other people that got sued right at the deadline of this deal right before Thanksgiving. I say all that to say – these NBA players, they get you so caught up in your racial idolatry, your hate of Donald Trump, and your hate of White men, that you don’t know that you’re normalizing things and setting standards of things that are going to come back and bite YOU in the rear end. I’m not trying to make excuses for him, but a 19-year-old from Australia comes over to America, according to all reports, meets this woman at a club where I think you had to be 18 to get in. So she’s shown a fake ID – I've talked to some people who know the girl, I’ve read all the reports.. This girl according to these people is she’s got a problem with the truth, no one is surprised she was in a nightclub pretending to be older than what she was, and so some 19-year-old kid meets some girl, thinks she’s of-age because she’s in this club, and they hook up and spend some time together. I’m not defending Josh Giddey, what I’m saying is... Do NBA players, the Black ones, do they want to be held to this standard? That when they were 18, 19, 20 years old with all this NIL money running around in college, early in their NBA career – they go out to nightclubs, they go to house parties where women lie about their age. They live in an era where they could be set up very easily. Do they really want the repercussions of what just happened to Josh Giddey being misled by a young woman, to then be able to turn around and say ‘you know, we can prosecute you for statutory rape'? Patrick Beverely is in his 30s now but let’s dial back the clock to when Patrick Beverely was 19, 20 years old, and his peers were 19 and 20 years old. What situations did they put themselves in? Think about Karl Malone. This dude knocked up a 13, 14-year-old in Louisiana. We think he’s the only one? You can get all caught up in ‘HEY, LET’S GET JOSH GIDDEY’ and ‘LET’S PLAY THE RACE CARD!’, but is that really a standard that you want to live by? And if that becomes standard and normalized, do you think Gloria Allred [the alleged victim's attorney] can’t find some Black mamas, some White mamas that would be like ‘hey, this young man when he was 19, 20 years old in the NBA or college, he hooked up with my 15-year-old daughter, and let’s shake HIM down for a seven-figure shakedown.’ Is that really a world these NBA players want to live in? This whole racial game and the way they play it, they play it like a game of checkers when life is a game of chess. The little checkers game that they’re playing will end up blowing up in their face... Just be careful. Did you not learn anything from the R. Kelly situation? I’m not saying R. Kelly is a victim, I’m just saying just learn something from the R. Kelly situation... There were mothers bringing their young daughters to R. Kelly. You don’t think there’s not some slick mother who wouldn’t bring their 15, 16, 14-year-old daughter to set you up in a situation with Patrick Beverely or some other NBA player when they know they can turn back around with a lawyer and shake this person down for money? Yes, she would. I’m not saying that’s what they were doing with R. Kelly, but what they were doing is mothers were bringing their daughter to R. Kelly and sanctioning this. They’re capable of shaking you down. Before you get all giddy about scoring social media points with Josh Giddey and looking like you’re the Blackest guy on the planet, you may be setting your own self up to get shook down and to have your reputation destroyed.” (Full Segment Above)

Watch Jason Whitlock of Blaze TV’s Fearless discuss the Josh Giddey fallout that has been consuming the NBA since allegations of Giddey’s sexual relations with a minor first surfaced in late November, warning NBA players like Patrick Beverley who have used their platforms to proudly spotlight the ongoing case.

Check out the segment above as Whitlock says NBA players should be hesitant when it comes to highlighting the Giddey case, saying they shouldn’t be going out of their way to speak on a situation that may be a lot more prevalent than the public is aware of, potentially leading to more incidents similar to Giddey’s where parents even instigate financial ‘shake downs’ of NBA players with their underage daughters.
