Colin Cowherd Tamps Down the Hype of Jayson Tatum's 51-Point Performance

Colin Cowherd: “You really gonna brag about Jayson Tatum’s 51-point game ten years from now at a Boston bar over a Sam Adams if they lose to Miami or get vanquished by LeBron in the Finals? Yeah, there’s nothing cooler than a guy bragging about Jayson Tatum’s second-round win over sagging Philly. The great ones don’t talk about the second round. BUT, he was magnificent, he’s capable of doing it more than he does, I’m happy for him, but don’t lie about it. You know and I know that you woke up as a Celtic fan thinking ‘if Tatum’s great, we’ll be great.’ Larry Bird did it forever, Russell did it forever, Cousy did it forever, Kevin Garnett came and did it, you’d seen it. Tatum has the talent but will he be ‘The Guy’? He was and he deserves credit. In the NBA there are steps to greatness, and he just checked another box off the list. This is a box checked but years from now, nobody is going to care about a second-round win vs. Philly, and this is going to seem incredibly hollow if they get beat by the Heat, or if the Lakers beat you again.” (Full Segment Above)

Watch Colin Cowherd tamp down the hysteria of Jayson Tatum’s 51-point performance in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against Philadelphia, as Colin says your coming-out moment as a ‘star’ can’t be a win in the second round of the playoffs.

Check out the segment above as Colin details the ‘steps for greatness’ that Tatum still has to complete before we anoint him the next great Celtic.
