Colin Cowherd Calls Out Kevin Durant After Game 1 Loss: 'He's Irrelevant'

Colin Cowherd: “Years ago there was this argument that KD was better than LeBron and I laughed at it over and over. There’s more depth in LeBron’s game, he’s a leader, he’s stronger, he’s more reliable, and he makes really good decisions.
What if Kevin Durant gets rolled here in round 1 by Minnesota? Not exactly a historical juggernaut. It will point out what the almost-apologetic NBA media always fails to do – KD makes BAD decisions. Can you imagine Patrick Mahomes saying ‘I’M DONE WITH ANDY REID AND TRAVIS KELCE! I WANNA GO PLAY FOR THE JETS BECAUSE I LIKE THIS SLOT RECEIVER!' That’s essentially what KD did leaving a dynasty.
At one point the argument that KD was better than LeBron was a furious debate. I rolled my eyes at it. KD is a great shot-maker, an all-timer, I love his game, but his skillset should put him in the top 1 or 2 in the last decade, and frankly, he’s getting lost. Jokic looks much better historically. Steph is really the soul of the Warriors winning titles before KD, during, and after. Anthony Davis is now a more consistent player on both ends. Giannis has more regular season MVPs. As I’m watching Phoenix get rolled, Kevin Durant is becoming increasingly irrelevant. It wasn’t long ego that the apologetic NBA media gave him a pass for leaving the NBA penthouse for a fixer-upper in Brooklyn, and then a re-model in Phoenix. And it’s not working here either. I like his game, and I’ve said if there was a 1-on-1 tournament he’d probably beat Jordan – he's a great scorer... But NBA players have power and they have leverage – it doesn’t mean they make good decisions. What if he gets rolled by Minnesota after that debacle in Brooklyn? Anybody in the NBA media going to call him out? You’d call out Mahomes because the NFL media isn’t here to protect its stars, it’s here to cover them. ‘Report’, not ‘support.’
You know what KD is starting to feel like? You’re going to call me nuts. Like a more available Kawhi. Enigmatic, mysterious, not sure why he does what he does, super-talented, can get you a basket and a stop, but what is he? What’s the gap between Jokic and Durant? It’s not close. It’s the Grand Canyon. LeBron has already established a Grand Canyon separation from KD. Steph Curry has now separated. Giannis has more regular season MVPs. Not to say I don’t like KD’s game, but can’t I argue he’s closer to Kawhi now than the best players in the league? Is that a hot take?? I know he just wanted to play with his friend, but would you leave a Yankees dynasty to go play with the Rays? Would you leave Andy Reid and the Chiefs as a quarterback because you had a buddy go play for the Jets? I thought the decision at the time was ridiculous and nobody called him out on it.”

Watch Colin Cowherd of FS1’s The Herd call out Kevin Durant for potentially ruining the second half of his career when he chose unstable Kyrie Irving over Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, as Colin says Durant is drifting into complete irrelevance with a rudderless Phoenix team who just got roughed up by the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of their first round series.

Check out the segment above as Colin blasts Durant’s ‘ridiculous’ decision to leave Golden State, ripping the NBA media for coddling Durant ever since, and downplaying Durant’s fall from grace among the league’s best players.
