The Cleveland Browns seemed to be approaching the 2018 off season with a clear plan to rejuvenate their failing franchise. They traded a 3rd round pick for Tyrod Taylor, leading many to believe he would be a bridge quarterback for Josh Allen, who they would draft at #4 overall, and use their #1 overall pick on top running back prospect Saquon Barkley. On Wednesday, GM John Dorsey decided to sign former 49ers running back Carlos Hyde to a 3-year deal, in a confusing move that wiped away any reasoning to draft Barkley early in the draft.
Jason Smith says they have overpaid for a position they didn't need to. Now, they will most likely be taking a quarterback with the first overall pick, while also paying Tyrod Taylor to be their starter. The Browns may know who they want to take with their two top four picks, but they clearly haven't moved past making their typical head-scratching moves.
