Now three years removed from his magical 2015 season that saw him win an MVP and reach the Super Bowl, Cam Newton has had an unprecedented fall from grace during his late 20’s that have the Panthers wondering if they’ll ever return to the elite status their franchise once was when they were a 15-1 juggernaut with Cam as the most electrifying player in the sport.
Newton would follow his greatest season ever with the worst season of his career in 2016, notching a pathetic 52.9 completion percentage and throwing just 19 TDs in 15 games. 2017 saw the team win 11 games, but Newton’s TD/INT ratio was a meager 22-16.
In 2018, Newton finds himself completing the highest percentage of passes for his career by a wide margin but also is notching the lowest yards per completion by a wide margin as well, as Newton has been mostly relegated to dinking and dunking to Christian McCaffrey, as the dynamic pass-catching back has nearly twice as many receptions has the next highest Carolina player.
With Newton’s most notable highlights the last three years being on the receiving end of catastrophic quarterback collisions, Clay Travis wonders if we have seen the last of a guy who was once the game’s biggest playmaker.
Listen to the full audio below as Clay believes the Panthers may need to start planning their exit plan with the state of North Carolina’s most beloved active athlete.
